Following the Los Angeles Lakers’ sweep at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals, questions about LeBron James’ future have intensified. The 41-year-old star was noncommittal after the 115-110 loss, simply stating, “I don’t know.”
While multiple reports indicate both James and the Lakers are open to continuing their partnership, rival teams are circling. According to Dan Woike and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Golden State Warriors and his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, may attempt to lure the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
“The Lakers and James have mutual interest in continuing their relationship—Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss have both expressed a desire for James to finish his career in Los Angeles,” the reporters wrote. “However, Golden State and Cleveland could try to entice the future Hall of Famer with an immediate championship opportunity, especially if James senses the Lakers are preparing to pivot without him.”
James has also hinted at retirement, though his strong performance down the stretch and the Lakers’ recent momentum might delay any decision. The team also aims to retain Austin Reaves alongside James, who will turn 42 next season.
