The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has acknowledged a critical mistake by the officiating team in the cancellation of a goal scored by Palmeiras defender Bruno Fuchs during their match against Remo in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Palmeiras confirmed the admission in an official statement released late Monday (May 11), stating that the CBF’s Refereeing Commission recognized the error during a meeting held that same day, attended by representatives from other Serie A clubs. The goal, netted in stoppage time, could have changed the outcome, but the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Anderson Barros, Palmeiras’ football director, represented the club and reiterated demands for measures to prevent such serious mistakes from recurring. “The CBF’s Refereeing Commission acknowledged the error made by the match and VAR officials,” the club’s statement read. “Palmeiras did not request any punishment for the referee or the VAR, understanding that even the best professionals are susceptible to mistakes. It is not our role, nor any other club’s, to interfere in CBF decisions, which, incidentally, have been making significant investments to improve Brazilian refereeing.”
However, Palmeiras urged reflection on how referee Ramon Abatti Abel was heavily penalized by the CBF and the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) months ago for incidents in the classic match between São Paulo and Palmeiras. “Simplistic solutions, adopted only to provide temporary satisfaction to external pressure, will not contribute to the evolution of refereeing and Brazilian football,” the club emphasized.
The incident has sparked broader debate about officiating consistency. Meanwhile, Palmeiras now turns its attention to upcoming fixtures, including a Copa do Brasil clash and further league matches.
